It is the dream of every woman to marry and have children. My mother and sister were very worried as I had crossed 30 years of age, and still single. When I finally tied the knot with a person working in the police service, my family members were overjoyed that my future was now secure. The nuptial night is when young bride’s dreams come true .As far as I am concerned, that special night was the only time I experienced the bliss of matrimony and it was also the last. All the days that followed were filled with agony. I would get beaten and kicked regularly .My new life was a battlefield. I would be sent away to my parents on regular intervals.

One fine day I decided that enough was enough. I left my husband and returned to the security of my maternal home. During that time, I chanced to watch a television programme in which Dr. Kamala Selvaraj was being interviewed .I decided to become a mother despite the fact that my marriage was now broken. I went to GG hospital. For six long months I did not get the opportunity to meet Dr. Kamala Selvaraj. I was however confident that once I did get to meet her and tell her my story, she would help me achieve what I wanted to become; a single mother .My efforts and faith did not go in vain. On hearing my plight, Dr. Kamala Selvaraj fixed the date to begin treatment within 15 days. It is a day I can never forget. After examining me, Dr. Kamala Selvaraj initiated the treatment that involved fertilizing my egg with that of a donor sperm.

The moment Dr. Kamala Selvaraj discovered that I was a pregnant, she was eager to tell me the news. But I could hear nothing. When everyone at the hospital rushed to congratulate me, I was overwhelmed. Accustomed as I was to misfortune, when the angel of fortune came visiting, in the person of Dr. Kamala, I was utterly unprepared. My life turned out to be a living example of the saying ‘God opens another’s door when the other is shut’. During the seventh month of my pregnancy my mother invited family and friends to celebrate my valaikaapu ritual. I sent an invite to my husband but he did not come. Maybe he felt guilty that he could not give me what Dr. Kamala had so generously showered on me. When the baby arrived, I name him after Ganesh, the remover of obstacles, and Balaji the giver of boons. Ganesh Balaji is today a district–level yoga champion. He wins several prizes at school. For giving me a reason to live and remain focused on life, I am eternally grateful to Dr. Kamala Selvaraj.
